Torsion field
Foreign enterprises are being
swindled! - warns the Russian Academy of Sciences. A group of Russian swindlers are seeking
investors for their pseudoscientific projects based on what they call "
torsion field" and "torsion technologies". The pseudoscientists promise to quickly build "torsion flying saucers", "torsion communications", and "torsion weapons".
Torsion fields
In Sept. 1998, in order to conduct an in-depth investigation
into the ongoing
torsion fields fraud dating back to the 1980's, the Presidium of
the Russian Academy of Sciences (RAS) established the Commission Against
Pseudoscience and Falsification of Scientific Research. The Commission published
a collection of papers authored by Commission's Chairman, RAS Academician
Dr. Edward Kruglyakov, disclosing numerous facts on the international
torsion field
fraud organized by a group of Russian swindlers in order to
swindle the Russian and foreign governments and private
enterprises. Co-Chairman of the Commission is RAS Academician
Dr. Vitaly Ginzburg, the Nobel Prize Winner in Physics 2003.
Dr. V.L. Ginzburg:
"An example of pseudoscience are projects dealing with practical application of torsion fields. Modern science knows four types of fields:
gravitational field, electromagnetic field, and so-called
weak and strong fields. In principle, there could exist
other fields, in particular so-called torsion field -
such possibility has been discussed in the framework of
the General Relativity Theory. Various groups of
physicists in many countries, including USSR, have been
conducting experiments, which showed that torsion fields
either do not exist in nature or they are so weak that
even the most sensitive detectors cannot detect them.
Thus it is quite obvious that torsion fields cannot
be put to use as a means of communication or for any other
practical purposes. But there appeared charlatans, who
have been swindling illiterate military and KGB officers
and have been getting large sums of money for their so-called "projects". Our Commission is unmasking those charlatans..." (full text of article by V.L.Ginzburg

Dr. E.P. Kruglyakov:
"One of the goals of the Commission Against Pseudoscience and Falsification of Scientific Research is to determine the reasons for unjustified dissemination of nonexistent "torsion technologies". Recently, we launched a new investigation... The documents are evidence of the fact that we are dealing with a longstanding large-scale fraud which has nothing in common with science. The fraud has reached a grandiose level..." (Science in Siberia, 2000, #7,

Akimov
According to the Commission, in late 1980's, a group of charlatans
posing as serious physicists organized a large-scale "
torsion fields" fraud and spent millions of roubles
from the state budget; and now the swindlers are attempting to repeat the fraud in other countries. The main figure in the Soviet fraud was a
Anatoly Akimov, who
claimed to have discovered a so-called torsion field and claimed to have
invented what he called "torsion technologies". Under the pretense of developing his "torsion
technologies", Akimov's "Center for Nontraditional Technologies" contrived to
spend about 500 million roubles of state money until, in 1991, this fraudulent
activity became known to the Academy of Sciences of the USSR and a scandal broke
out. The USSR Academy of Sciences conducted an in-depth investigation; it was established that millions of
roubles had been spent for "
torsion fields research" without any scientific examination. Akimov's Center was closed, Akimov was fired.
But very soon A.E. Akimov organized a small private enterprise with a
sonorous name "The International Institute for Theoretical and Applied Physics"
and this "Institute" published quite a number of pseudoscientific papers about
nonexistent "torsion technologies" largely based on a so-called "
Theory of the Physical Vacuum" created by a
Gennady Shipov.
Shipov
In 1993,
G.I. Shipov published a book
"
Theory of Physical Vacuum" wherein he described
"
Akimov's torsion generators and torsion technologies" (with pictures). Second edition of
the book appeared in 1997, and in 1998
the third
edition ("new and improved", "now in English") was
published, whereafter the Russian Academy of Sciences
organized the Commission Against Falsification of
Scientific Research and conducted a scientific
examination of the Shipov book. Results of the examination
were published, in 2000, in the Russian Physics-Uspekhi
Journal (vol. 3, 2000). Academician of RAS Dr.
Valery Rubakov, who is a member of the RAS Commission,
wrote a review on G.I. Shipov's book.
Download the full English text of Dr. Rubakov's review (requires a subscription to Physics-Uspekhi). Physics-Uspekhi, # 3, 2000. V.A. Rubakov: review on the book
by G.I.Shipov "Theory of Physical Vacuum". In the
review, Dr. V.A. Rubakov conclusively demonstrates
that the Shipov book abounds with mathematical
errors and false statements. In the end of his review, Dr. Valery Rubakov writes:
"The book by G.I. Shipov might not have deserved a review
in Physics-Uspekhi if it were not for the following
circumstances. G.I. Shipov's "theory" is being actively
propagandized by its author and his collaborators...
And that is, undoubtedly, to the detriment of science
and education... The possibility of existence of
torsion fields have long been debated in scientific
literature. But if such fields do exist, their
interaction with matter must be extremely weak... Existing
experimental and astrophysical data excludes the
posibility to generate or register torsion fields
with devices like "Akimov's torsion generators" described in the book by G.I. Shipov."
Chairman of the Commission Against Falsification of Scientific Research, RAS Academician, Dr. Edward P. Kruglyakov: "From time to
time
Akimov gets caught in fraud. For example, in 1996 he stated,
"The first
flying saucer will soon be tested at Korolev Rocket and Space Corporation ENERGIA. Its principle of propulsion is completely new - there is no use of
a reactive force. If the tests are successful there is a real prospect of a
conversion of all transportation, automobiles, trains, etc. to a new principle
without the use of internal combustion engines" ("Chisty Mir [A Clean World
Newspaper]", N4, 1996). And here is a comment of V.P. Legostayev, the First
Vice President and First Deputy Chief Designer of ENERGIA:
"ENERGIA has not been working on, is not working on, and does not expect to be
working on the development of 'flying saucers' based on a torsion field
generator". Why am I describing this adventure in so much detail? The problem
is, although there is not a single supporter of
A.E. Akimov in the Physics Branch
of the Russian Academy of Sciences and although the Physics Section of the Russian Academy of Natural
Sciences has harshly condemned the activity of
A.E. Akimov and his henchman
G.I. Shipov in the Physical Sciences Branch of the RAS, the torsion fraud is
seizing newer and newer bridgeheads. Under the supervision of Mr. Akimov several
closed stock companies have been formed which in recent years have gathered a
harvest not only inside the country but also in the international arena." (From
Report made by
Academician E.P.Kruglyakov at the Presidium of the
Russian Academy of Sciences Meeting, May 27, 2003. )
